4810-in-use-web-1 police car w ltron product-resized-600So, in reality, I should not know too much about the newest eCitation or incident reporting technology…but unfortunately, I do!
My story begins back in December 2010, while I was on the road heading south to Elmira to visit one of my old college friends.  I had the music turned on and was singing away to some college tunes to get myself in the spirit of my visit.  All of a sudden, I noticed lights behind me and a siren noise blaring…yup, it was the police.  It seems my music and singing got the best of me and I inadvertently was speeding without really noticing it.  I pulled over nervously and waited for the officer to approach my car, hoping that he would go easy on me, let me off-the-hook, or write an illegible ticket that wouldn’t be enforced.
No such luck.
Instead of the officer writing out my ticket and handing it to me, everything was scanned while he was in the police cruiser.  My license, with its 2D barcode, became the source of all my unique information.  The barcode was scanned and immediately my information was available to the officer.  I regretfully signed the ticket via a signature capture pad and away I went.  At least the rest of my trip was fun and relatively uneventful!  Needless to say, the days of praying that the officer’s writing is illegible so I wouldn’t have to pay for my ticket are over.
Looking back on my experience, I thought about how the new ticketing process probably keeps officers a lot safer.  For instance, if I had been someone with a record or a warrant out on me, the officer would have been able to react so much quicker with this new technology than in the past.  Now granted, I am happy to report that I do not have either, so the officer simply came back to my car with a printed out ticket.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my embarrassing story.  If you’ve had something similar happen to you, I’d love to hear back from you.  Should you want to check back to see my future blog posts, I will be sharing some of the benefits of eCitation and driver’s license solutions.  For now, if you’d like to learn more about eCitation, feel free to contact me directly at lynn.johnson@L-Tron.com
Safe driving everyone!
