Reach Out and Read is a national program which incorporates books into pediatric care, encouraging families to read aloud together. The goal is to encourage good reading habits and work hand-in-hand with families to support literacy development in children.
Golisano Children’s Hospital takes part in this initiative and their supply of books for the program was completely depleted. According to one of the nurses at the hospital, “Being read to at a very young age is not only a great way to instill good reading habits, but improves children’s reading ability, as well as promoting family togetherness. We start giving books out to infants at their 6 mos visit until they turn 5 years. The books were great. I appreciate all of your efforts!”
Carmella, a member of our ‘Edu-Techie’ Team, is also a consultant with Usborne Books. She saw an opportunity for us to get involved and donate books to the hospital through an organized book drive.
Through generous donations by L-Tron, our team and other local businesses including: Eastside Pediatrics, Jamison Eye Care, Joe Giancursio of RE/MAX Realty Group and Lime Energy; we were able to donate over 140 books to the Golisano Children’s Hospital Reach Out and Read program. Carmella also contributed more books with the proceeds from the book drive.
